How You Helped PodVapes Plant 42,000 Trees
You’re no doubt concerned about deforestation and the future of the planet. PodVapes is helping you make a difference by joining forces with One Tree Planted. With your support, over 42,000 trees have been planted on behalf of PodVapes customers over the last two years. The trees are helping replace some of those lost to tobacco production every year.
Over the past 12 months, trees have been planted in biodiverse important regions in Australia and the US. The native trees help combat deforestation, provide habitat for endangered animals and will sequester carbon for decades to come. With every PodVapes order the number of trees planted continues to grow. See how your support today will benefit generations to come.
Trees Planted in Australia
The southwest of Western Australia was chosen as a planting site because of its inclusion in the international Top 25 Biodiversity Hotspots list. More than 8,200 trees have been planted to provide food and habitat for the endangered wedge-tailed eagles, endangered carnaby's black cockatoos, southwestern pygmy possums, and honey possums. The planting sites have included the buffer zone of the Stirling National Park which suffered terrible tree loss during the Black Summer fires of 2019/20.
Another 7,000 trees were planted across NSW, SA and the ACT as part of the response to the 2019 bushfires that destroyed 17.9 million acres of land. It’s part of a shared mission to plant 1 million trees over five years by supporting seedling propagation and long-term volunteer programs to reforest fire-affected areas.
Trees Planted in the US
Of course, it’s not just Australia that needs more trees planted to combat the effects of fire and carbon emissions. The US-based PodVapes customers have helped us plant more than 13,000 natives trees across three states of America during the past year.
In Florida, the Longleaf Pine trees planted are home to several threatened and endangered species, including red-cockaded woodpeckers, eastern indigo snakes and gopher tortoises. The trees will help with overall forest health and ecosystem processes, while also sequestering carbon for years to come.
In Idaho, the mature trees will offer crucial habitat and protection for the threatened bull trout, chinook salmon, wolverines, bighorn sheep and grizzly bears.
Impact of Tobacco Farming
Many smokers and reformed smokers are conscious of the toll their habit has had on the environment. For decades, large tracts of land have been cleared for tobacco production and continues today. It’s estimated that 200,000 hectares of forests and woodlands are removed for tobacco farming every year. Most of the deforestation occurs in developing nations with tobacco production accounting for 1.7% of global net loss of forest.
When a person uses vaping to quit smoking, they’re no longer contributing to the need for more tobacco plants and they’re helping PodVapes support important reforestation programs.
About One Tree Planted
One Tree Planted is a non-profit environmental charity that makes it possible for organisations like PodVapes and individuals to plant more trees. The trees that are planted all over the world are contributing to a healthier climate, protecting biodiversity and helping reforestation efforts.
